Acti 9 Miniature Circuit Breakers - MCBs
Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCBs) are designed to protect circuits from overcurrents like short circuits and overloads. Miniature circuit breakers (MCB) provide protection against short circuits and are rated up to 125A. They can be combined with a residual current device, to provide protection against short circuits, overloaded circuits and ground faults.
MCBs are widely used in residential and commercial buildings as primary protective devices in low-voltage electrical installations. They are also utilized in industrial applications for protecting equipment like motors and pumps, as well as in automotive applications for safeguarding various components.

Acti 9 Surge Protection Devices - SPDs
Surge protection devices (SPDs) are critical components in electrical systems, designed to protect sensitive electronics from voltage spikes. These spikes, often caused by lightning or power grid disturbances, can significantly damage electronic components such as memory, processors, capacitors, and screens. SPDs function by clamping the voltage spike, reducing it to a level that connected appliances can withstand. Modern SPDs, like those offered by Schatz Electric, are capable of reducing a voltage spike from as high as 3-6 kV to approximately 15 kV, a level tolerable for most appliances, thereby minimizing the risk of damage.
According to the Electrical Safety Foundation International, the 2020 National Electrical Code requires the use of surge protective devices in new or renovated homes. This regulation underscores the importance of SPDs in residential settings, where they protect various household systems and appliances from surge-induced damage. Types of SPDs include Type 1, installed inside or outside the home for protection against external and internal surges, Type 2, connected to the breaker box for similar protection, and Type 3 for point-of-use extra protection. Using a combination of these types ensures the highest level of protection for electronic devices.
Schatz Electric provides a range of SPDs suitable for different applications. For instance, our modular surge arrester, the iPRF1 12,5r & PRD1 Type 1, offers low voltage surge protection with a maximum discharge current of 8 to 65 kA. The iQuick PF & iQuick PRD Type 2 SPDs come with an integrated disconnector, also supporting low voltage applications. Additionally, the iPF & iPRD Acti 9 DIN rail type-2 SPDs are designed for absolute safety, suitable for various industrial and residential applications.
